I. Raising questions:

T: Today, we’ll deal with the mid-term English paper. Before class, you’ve raised and discussed your questions in your groups. First, let’s check the answers to the rest with question marks. (the answers are presented on the screen)

单选:21-25 B A A C D        26-30 A D A C B             31-35 B C D B C

完形:36-40 C A D D A        41-45 C B C A D              46-50 B A D B C

阅读:51-53 C B B               54-57 C D A D              58-61 B C A D       62-65 D C C A

Now, it’s time to present your questions you can’t deal with to the whole class.

S1: In Multiple-choice, No. 22, how to distinguish the usages of ‘none, both, either and neither’. No. 26, what’s the usage of phrases related to ‘take’ and ‘break. No. 32, how to choose the correct tense in unreal conditionals.

S2: No. 24 & 28, how to distinguish the usage of ‘to do, doing and done’.

S3: In Cloze test, we are not sure about the meaning of No. 40, 43 &50.

S4: In Reading comprehension, we have no idea about No. 56, 58 & 65.

T: (write down the question numbers on the blackboard) Ok, you’re given 10 minutes to discuss the difficulties in your group and then tell us your ideas.

II. Working in groups

Students begin discussing the questions on the blackboard in groups.

Multiple-choice:

22. none, both, either, neither

26. take, break

24,28. to do, doing, done

32. unreal conditionals

Cloze test:

40, 43, 50

Reading comprehension:

56, 58, 65

III. Presentation and sum up

OK, it’s time for you to present your results and sum up some skills. First, let’s welcome the reporter from Group 4.

S5: 22题中,由问句中的‘do you like best’可判断应该是三者以上,所以用none。这题中最容易上当的信息就是‘they are both expensive and of little use.’容易把they are both误理解为“他们两”。26. take的短语有take up从事,take on呈现;招收,take in吸收,take off起飞;(事业)腾飞;take over接管。break的短语有break down坏了;(计划)败了;(身体)垮了, break up破碎;分裂, break into/in打断;闯进, break away from脱离, break through突破;攻破。24题是考查非谓语动词,由by the end of 2012和谓语动词时态will expand可知the project还没有完工,所以可先确定用to do表示要做某事,另外projectaccomplish是被动关系,故用to be accomplished28题也是考查非谓语动词,此题只要找到非谓语动词faced with的逻辑主语即可,它的逻辑主语应该是人,所以选A32题考查虚拟句,由why didn’t you go to help her?可知时态是一般过去式,所以对过去事实的虚拟时,主句用would have done。而but后面应该跟真事句,时态仍然是一般过去式。故选C

T: Thanks a lot. Let’s come to cloze test. Let’s welcome the representative from group 7.

S6: 40题,根据上下文可知,作者(我)在不同的画展室穿梭欣赏艺术作品,只有through表示“穿过”,即through the various rooms of arts43题根据本句中的下一个短语pulled out可推断在pulled out之前应该是reached into his pocket50题也是根据上下文理解可知,作者明白了那位妻子不厌其烦地给盲人丈夫讲解艺术作品的极大耐心,以及丈夫从不允许(allow)双目失明而改变人生的乐观精神。所以allow blindness to change his life最为恰当。

T: Good job. Let’s come to the last part-reading comprehension. Welcome the reporter from group 10.

S7: 56题是词汇猜测题。由上文The USA seems to be the only country…, and it has tried to do so, but not very successful以及下文many other countries to work on it together.可推断aggregated可以用united替换,表示“联合”,整句意思为“美国好像是第一个有能力独自建立太空站的国家,尽管为之付出努力,但未能成功,所以美国联合其他国家一起来研究”。58题是细节辨析题。从第1个广告和第2个广告中可以找到具体信息来判断ABCD是否正确。A选项信息不全,C选项混淆了信息内容,D选项偷梁换柱了地点。只有B与信息内容一致,其中persuasive(有说服力的)可从第1个广告中的negotiating(会谈判的)一词推断。65题是作者意图题。由文章最后一段倒数第3As children grow older, parents should let their children decide how to use their time or spend their money可知,父母不应该过多干涉子女怎样消遣时间和花零钱。所以A选项正确。Help them when necessary.意思为当有必要的时候才帮助。而CD选项都表示任由孩子去做。不符合作者意图。

T: Perfect. Thank you.

IV. Application and Outward Bound Training

T: Now that we have got the right answers, let’s do some extra exercises on the paper to consolidate what we have learnt.

Ss: (complete the exercises on the paper within 10 minutes )

T: Let’s check the answers. I’ll ask 6 students come to the front and present the answers on the screen.

(Ask students to the front and show their answers, if other students have questions, the representative give the explanations. Teacher helps them when necessary.)

T: Today’s homework, review what you have learnt today, and note the important points and key sentences down on the notebook.
